Snow flurries could begin as early as noon on Thursday in New York City, though most of the forecast snow is expected to fall after 4 p.m.
New York City, upstate New York, New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts are all predicted to have snowfall until Thursday night; however, Boston is not anticipated to receive much snowfall.
By 4 a.m. on Sunday, most of the heavy to moderate snowfall is predicted to stop. By 8 or 11 a.m. on Saturday, the snowfall is expected to completely stop.
More than half a foot of snow is predicted to fall in the southern Hudson Valley, western Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, and New York City. Up to eight or nine inches of snow might fall in some places.
In places like Johnstown and Clarion in central Pennsylvania, ice buildup may exceed a quarter of an inch. Extreme caution has been advised for drivers on the I-80 and I-70. High ice levels might potentially result in power disruptions.
Northeastern West Virginia, central and northwestern Pennsylvania, and a large portion of Michigan, including Detroit, may see up to 0.2 inches of ice accumulation. It is anticipated that driving on untreated surfaces may be challenging.
Washington, D.C., and Baltimore may also see some ice accumulation on Friday and into Friday night.
Across the upper Midwest, ice accumulation of around 0.2 inches is possible from northern Minnesota through northern Wisconsin and Michigan.
